KAJANG: Police detained the caretaker of a health centre in Semenyih here yesterday in connection with a case involving the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old girl.

Kajang District Police Chief ACP Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the woman, 41, was detained after she went to the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 5.30 pm on Monday to give her statement.

He said the girl, a school dropout who has been working at the centre since April, was found to have burn marks on her arms, body and mouth.

“On Thursday, the victim was taken to a house in Cheras to massage a post-natal female customer when she related her story to her,” he said in a press conference held at the Kajang IPD here yesterday.

Subsequently, the customer together with a nongovernmental organisation lodged a police report and initial investigations found that the victim was believed to have been beaten with a hot ladle, punched and strangled.

The victim who is currently being treated at the Selayang Hospital also claimed that she was raped by a customer in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, last May.

He said police will also be calling in the owner of the health centre, a 54-year-old woman, who was currently undergoing treatment for a heart condition in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital to help in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse.

In a separate case, Ahmad Dzaffir said a 10-month-old baby who was believed to have been abused has been confirmed to suffer kidney damage.

He said investigations found that the abuse allegedly occurred because the baby cried too often, resulting the suspect to punch and throw on to the floor.

Bernama had reported earlier that the baby’s mother and her boyfriend were detained in Ampang and Kajang last Saturday following investigations into the case. - Bernama
