Businessma­n jailed, fined for causing injury

KOTA KINABALU: A businessma­n was jailed two months and fined RM1,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for injuring another man.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes imposed the sentence on Alan Wong, 38, after the latter pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The charge carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine or both, upon conviction.

The accused admitted to causing hurt to the 53-year-old victim at Kampung Tuavon in Penampang on July 29.

The court also ordered the accused to be jailed for another two months if he failed to pay the fine.

In an unrelated case, Indonesian Siti Aishah Mokhtar was sentenced to four months’ imprisonme­nt by the Sessions Court here for entering the state illegally.

Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim meted out the sentence after the accused admitted to a charge framed under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigratio­n Act.

The accused was arrested for failing to produce her valid travel document to be in Sabah during an operation at an entertainm­ent outlet at Pekan Koidupan in Penampang on December 16.

The court ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigratio­n Department after serving her jail term for further action.
