Developer urged to widen drain to prevent flooding

LAHAD DATU: The residents of Taman Khazanah Indah have urged the developer to take immediate action to widen the narrow drain that caused flooding in their housing area.

Vice president of Consumer Affairs and Protection Society of Sabah (CAPS), Datuk A Nagaraju Applasamy, the residents lodged complaints that their houses would get flooded during heavy rains.

Nagaraju when met during his visit to the housing estate said immediate action should be take as the flooding caused a burden to the residents.

“Following our survey, the floods were caused by poor drainage system and the river is too narrow.

“From my point of view, the river should be expanded and the drainage system should be upgraded,” he said.

So Nagaraju hoped that the developer would take immediate action.

Meanwhile, one of the house owners, Syaripuddi­n Kamaruddin said they would usually face such a situation during the rainy season.

He said floods caused huge losses to the house owner and burdensome as some properties got damaged.

“A narrow drain can result in floods we (residents) had use our own money to clean the drainage system.

“We hope the local authority will solve this problem immediatel­y and we also look forward to some compensati­on to cover our losses,” he added.
