Black Panther unleashes holiday TV spot

-

A NEW 30-second trailer for February 2018’s superhero movie “Black Panther” showcases its characters, combat and costumes.

Released on Christmas Day and taking advantage of a relative lull in film industry advertising, the King TV Spot for “Black Panther” keeps Marvel’s first 2018 movie on the radar.

The film follows T’Challa, introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise in 2016’s ensemble movie “Captain America: Civil War”. The king of Wakanda returns to his technologically advanced African homeland and must deal with a rival contender for his throne.

Chadwick Boseman, who was praised for his turns as baseball icon Jackie Robinson in “42” and legendary soul singer James Brown in “Get on Up,” reprises his role as T’Challa and his Black Panther alter ego.

In “Black Panther,” he is joined by an extensive cast of star names including Angela Bassett (“American Horror Story”), Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit”), Danai Gurira (“The Walking Dead”), Michael B. Jordan (“Creed”), Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”), Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”), Andy Serkis (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”) and Forest Whitaker (“Arrival”).

Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, hot property since performing double duty on 2013 drama “Fruitvale Station” and then 2015 action movie (and “Rocky” franchise continuation) “Creed”, the “Black Panther” movie is set for a US debut on Feb 16, 2018.

Following that, T’Challa is due back in Marvel’s next ensemble superhero movie, “Avengers: Infinity War” in May 2018, while the Disney-owned studio has “Ant-Man and the Wasp” set for July the same year.

21st Century Fox, which runs Marvel’s X-Men licence – and would become part of the Disney empire should a December 2017 acquisition go through – will start 2018 with horror spin-off “The New Mutants” in April, and continues with “Deadpool 2” in June and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” in November.

Competing superhero movie concern, the Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe venture, has announced that “Aquaman” will be out December 2018, with “Shazam” and “Wonder Woman 2” coming in 2019.
