LOS ANGELES: Actor Mark Hamill has regretted voicing his criticism of how Luke Skywalker was written for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The actor wrote that he should have kept his thoughts on the matter out of the public and that Johnson made a great film.

“I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public,” Hamill tweeted to his more than 2.2 million followers. “Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- @ rianjohnson made an all-time GREAT one! #HumbledHamill”

direction Rian Johnson, the film’s writer and director, went with his classic Jedi character.

Among the criticisms of those who didn’t like the film were notes on Skywalker’s unexpected arc. Previous interviews Hamill had done in which he also said he did not care for the character’s direction were used by critics as proof it was not in line with what Star Wars, in their opinion, should be.

“I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character,” Hamill told Johnson during shooting of the film, the actor recounted in a May interview in Vanity Fair.

Johnson has also addressed the fan criticism of the film, saying, “The goal is never to divide or make people upset, but I do think the conversations that are happening were going to have to happen at some point if sw (Star Wars) is going to grow, move forward and stay vital.”

In the US, The Last Jedi opened to near-record breaking numbers and continues to dominate the domestic box office over the holiday season.
