Three cops among six arrested over robbery

-

IPOH: A senior officer was among three police personnel arrested together with an unemployed man for allegedly committing a robbery at a man’s house in the wee hours Wednesday.

During the 2am incident at Kampung Rapat, the suspects allegedly entered the victim’s house and escaped with cash amounting to around RM12,300.

Ipoh Deputy OCPD Supt Abdul Rani Alias said the victim was first approached by six men in an MPV at his house, and they identified themselves as policemen.

“The suspects accused the victim of storing drugs in his house and demanded the victim hand over cash, or else they would haul him to the nearest police station,” he said.

Supt Abdul Rani said police successfully nabbed a 35year-old suspect at Jalan Tun Sambanthan here and rounded up three more suspects, aged between 27 and 43, in Ipoh city centre, Bukit Merah and Sungai Senam at around 12pm that day.

“We are still in the process of tracking down the other two suspects,” he said, adding that they managed to seize RM1,500 in cash during the arrest.

“We believe this cash is part of the loot they robbed from the victim,” he said.

The four suspects are to be remanded for six days until Jan 2, 2018, to assist in investigations under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
