Smart Policing System effective in enhancing public safety – Salleh

-

SHENZHEN: Real-time analytics of video and photographs captured using cameras in public areas will enhance public safety and curb crime, said Malaysian Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

He said this had been proven to work in many cities globally, including in Longgang, China. The Longgang Police adopted a Smart Policing System in 2016 to help them enhance public safety for the city’s four million residents.

“There has been a 53.2 percent drop in theft and robbery cases in Longgang since they adopted the Smart Policing System, and a 45.1 percent increase in case solving,” said Salleh, who is on a twoday working visit to Shenzhen, China.

Salleh said he believed that a smart safety solution would help curb the number of incidences of crime in Malaysia.

“Deploying smart safety solutions in Malaysia to deter crime is likely to translate to increased tourism and higher retail spending,” he said.

This had been proven in several big cities around the world, including London and Singapore, according to Huawei Technologies.

“Looking at the digital transformation of cities into smart cities, a good way to start becoming smart is to deploy smart safety solutions for public safety as a start. This will benefit everyone, including tourists,” said Salleh. - Bernama
