New Year Festival Strongman Open Challenge postponed
KOTA KINABALU: The New Year Festival Strongman Open Challenge which was scheduled to be held here this weekend has been postponed.
The event was to be held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex (KKSC) here on December 30 and 31 but has now been put off until further notice.
Tournament coordinator Roger Fredrick said the event had attracted a handful of entries and that all of them have been informed about the postponement.
Meanwhile, when contacted yesterday, a spokesperson of GAMA Generation, the organiser of the New Year Festival Carnival, said the event was postponed due to bad weather.
“We decided to postpone the event due to the recent weather warnings and ensuing bad weather. The event is likely to be scheduled sometime in August next year,” the spokesman said.
The Strongman Open Challenge was one of several attractions scheduled to be held at the New Year Festival carnival.
Roger said he had made preparation for the competition which was supposed to feature eight classic strongman challenges namely Truck Pull (10 tonne), Farmer's Walk (100kg x 2), Yoke Walk (200kg), Tyre Flip (420kg), Bear Hug (110kg), Log Press (110kg), Car Dead Lift (Nissan Almera) and Atlas Stone (90-130kg).
For the record, this is the second time the New Year Festival carnival event is being postponed. It was earlier scheduled for December 23 and 24.
