RSTC's Christmas, New Year Cup Races in Tuaran

TUARAN: The Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) will organise the Christmas and New Year Cup Races at the Tambalang Race Course here on January 1, 2018.

The annual event will feature four races with the highlight on the Christmas Cup and New Year Cup races.

The Christmas Cup race, the second event on race day, caters for Class II and III starters over a distance of 1,900m on the turf track.

It offers total stake money of RM18,480 where the winner will walk home with RM11,000 followed by RM3,900, RM2,000 and RM950 for the first to third runner-up respective­ly.

Eight horses have registered for the main race and City Express is the favourite to win the title.

City Spider will pose the strongest challenge to the race favourite while the other leading contender is Lily Express II.

The other highlight will be the New Year Cup for 'Kampong Ponies' for Class Eight, which will be the first race of the day expected at 12.30pm.

The total stake money is RM8,900 and last year's champion Super One will be coming back to defend her crown.

Rafflesia II, King Arthur and Golden Tale are the other potential ponies for the title in the race which will feature 11 starters.

It will be competed over a 1,800m distance on sand track.

As for the Thoroughbr­ed Race for Class A & B, 14 horses were entered for the 1,200m race on the turf track.

Slippery Eel will start as favourite while the other horses to watch are Ben and Athena.

The Class One & Two will also be on the race card. Seven starters have registered for the 1,200m race where City Beauty, Zack and City Star II are the favourites.

Meanwhile, there will also be an off-course betting live telecast from Hong Kong Jockey Club and Singapore Turf Club on race day.

In a statement yesterday, RSTC chairman Datuk Peter Chin Tet Fong and committee members took the opportunit­y to wish all punters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
