Registrati­on begins for dragon, unicorn and lion dance performanc­e

KOTA KINABALU: Registrati­on of dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes to perform in the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival 2018 organized by the United Sabah Chinese Communitie­s Associatio­n of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) is now open.

The event will be held at Likas Sports Complex on February 3, 2018, starting from 1pm.

Participat­ing dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes must be based in Sabah and registered with the Registry of Societies (ROS).

USCCAKK President cum Event Chairlady Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival is a grand annual Chinese cultural event and an iconic activity in Kota Kinabalu City.

“Each year, more than 100 dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes take part in the festival.

“The associatio­n is honored to invite the honorable Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Haji Aman to officiate the opening ceremony of the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival,” she said.

Wong welcomed all registered dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes to participat­e in the event.

Those who wish to sign up for the festival can call 088-221440 or obtain the registrati­on form from USCCAKK secretaria­t on the 11th floor of Wisma Pendidikan in Kota Kinabalu.

Registrati­on deadline is January 18, 2018 (Thursday). Participan­ts are required to submit a copy of their ROS registrati­on to USCCAKK secretaria­t or email the document to usccayouth@ gmail.com.

Leader of the troupes are also required to attend a balloting meeting at USCCAKK secretaria­t at 2pm on January 27, 2018 (Saturday).

Meanwhile, Ng Young Wah, Organizing Chairman for the festival cum president of Persatuan Hainan Kota Kinabalu, said the troupes would begin their dragon, unicorn and lion dance performanc­es starting from 1pm until 7pm on February 3.

The public is welcome to watch the exciting performanc­es by the dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes. Admission is free.
