Have confidence in nation’s strength – Mah
KUALA LUMPUR: As Malaysians usher in New Year 2018, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong said it is important that they have confidence in the strength, wellbeing and direction of the country under the stewardship of the government.
He noted that experience from previous years had taught them to remain united and be positive as well as supportive of national efforts to overcome difficulties and adversities.
“We must avoid falling into political pitfalls created by populist, opportunistic and divisive voices who only seek to reap political dividends out of disunity, crisis and mayhem,” the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister said in his New Year message.
Mah said various inclusive and forward-looking development and transformation programmes had been introduced by the government to engender local business vitality and success.
Socioeconomic developments, he said, had rediscovered its momentum and thrived as global challenges and uncertainties faded away.
“As we leap into the New Year, Malaysia can look forward to a bright future with all Malaysians sharing and committed to striving for a common destiny of social progress, economic development and vibrant democracy,” Mah said.
In his New Year message, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai called on Malaysians to once again pledge to work together to reject any divisive elements, and propel the country to greater heights.
“I’m confident that if we continue to uphold our Malaysian values of moderation, mutual respect and acceptance of one another, we’ll continue to thrive,” the transport minister said. - Bernama
