Tawau Umno Youth focusing on winning young voters
TAWAU: Winning the votes of the young generations and fence sitters at the 14th general Election next year are among the priorities of the Tawau Umno Youth Division at the 14th General Election (GE14).
Tawau Umno Youth chief Ariffin Kassim said the division would not take the easy way out by marginalising young voters and fence sitters despite confidence of emerging triumphant in the GE14 but would invite them to take part in all the party's programmes.
"This is also the prime minister 's wish to approach the fence sitters who are considered persuadable voters who can be vote contributors, as well as the younger generations," he said when met by reporters after a free haircut in conjunction with a return to school programme organised by the Umno Youth Division yesterday.
In the meantime, Ariffin said the movement had successfully registered about 3,200 new voters this year in the effort to achieve the target of 5,000 voters by GE14.
"Our approach is consistent from the past by holding community service programmes, including free service programmes such as hair cuts.
"In January Umno Youth will hold a house-to-house health check-up programme with the help of nursing colleges here," he said, optimistic that it would prompt the young people and fence sitters to register as voters. - Bernama
