Indonesian beaten to death in Kinabatang­an plantation

KINABATANG­AN: A 60-year-old Indonesian was beaten to death by a fellow countryman at the workers’ quarters of Ladang Mananggol here on early Monday morning.

District police chief Superinten­dent A.Sahak Rahmat said police had received a report from the assistant manager of the estate about the incident around 2pm.

The victim’s body was found in pool of blood with two wounds in the head and bruises over his eyes.

It is learnt that the victim was the brother in-law of the suspect and they both lived together in the same workers’ quarters since 10 months ago.

According to an eyewitness, during the incident, the victim was sleeping alone in the living room after drinking alcohol around 2am.

Meanwhile, the suspect returned home from drinking alcohol at his friend’s house around 5am. After changing his clothes, the suspect then took a wooden stick from outside of the house and beat the victim.

The incident believed was triggered by revenge as the victim and suspect had an argument a week before.

Police detained the 41-year-old suspect around 2.35pm on the same day at Ladang Gomantong and confiscate­d the wooden stick used to beat the victim.

The victim’s body had been sent to Duchess of Kent Hospital for a postmortem.

The case will be investigat­ed under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
