Four vehicles damaged, house collapses into sea

SANDAKAN: The bad weather caused a stretch of road and a house to collapse, damaging four vehicles.

Batu Sapi member of parliament Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin will utilise her MP fund to help repair the stretch of concrete road at Prosperous Village that collapsed last Thursday.

She and her officers visited the place located off Jalan Cecily on Saturday to inspect the extent of the damage following the incident.

The Batu Sapi MP told representa­tives of the four affected families, the safety of folks residing in the area is a priority.

She would use her MP Fund to repair the damaged section of the road.

Residents were grateful for the prompt response from Linda in helping to resolve the matter.

In the incident which occurred about 9.05am on December 28, four vehicles fell into a ditch after a section of the concrete road collapsed due to the weight of the vehicles.

Except for damage to the four vehicles, it was a relief that none of the drivers who were visiting a bridegroom’s house at that time were injured.

The prevailing monsoon season also caused a wooden house at Kampung Melayu Bumiputera at Buli Sim-Sim Road here to collapse into the turbulent sea on Monday night

According to Shaiful Bahari, the house owner, Puan Misli Haji Yusuf and her family were not injured.

Community developmen­t leader for Tanjung Papat, Wong Chee Kiat, along with Kampung Bumiputera village head, Abdul Bakar bin Awang Damit, and board member of the Sabah Fishermen’s Associatio­n), Shaiful Bahari Muin, visited the scene following the incident.

A task force to tackle disasters during high tide phenomenon has been formed in Kampung Melayu Bumiputera Tanjung Papat. The committee comprising 10 people, including Wong, Abdul Bakar and Shaiful will also be monitoring at night for four consecutiv­e days from January 2 to 4 at Kampung Melayu Bumiputera and the Sim-Sim Low Cost Housing and Medium Rise Housing area.

A mobile police post will be set up in front of Bridge No. 4 near the Sinar Harapan Tabika, from 8pm until 3am.

In addition, a cleaning up activity is being carried out to remove debris of the collapsed house to prevent it from damaging nearby houses.

Villagers are advised to be more cautious and always alert to bad weather warnings and to keep their important documents in a safe place in the event of any emergency.
