LABUAN: Mohammad Hasbullah Sanmin ‘King Garagas’ is the new champion of the inaugural Borneo Martial Arts Expo (BMAEX) 2017, having beaten one of Borneo’s most reputable Muay Thai fighter, Sunny N. Sabornido over two and a half rounds in the ISKA K1 National Championship.
Hasbullah used his reach and mixed martial arts ability to cause Sunny problems from the outset in the first ever ISKA 57kg title of the Super 4 Fight tournament, scoring a knockdown on the way to claiming a unanimous decision win.
“It was a very tough fight as Sunny had also won a number of major tournaments and held title belts,” the newly-crowned champion told Bernama.
His punches caught Sunny’s attention early and seemed to disrupt his game plan in the sweat drenched bout.
Hasbullah’s height and body structure did not deter him from attacking Sunny aggressively from the first to the last bout and he went on to finish the bout with a knockdown at 1:18.
His hand work forced Sunny out of position defensively, which opened him up to a knockdown blow in the second round.
By the third round, Sunny started showing signs of fatigue while desperately looking for that one blow to end the fight.
Instead, Hasbullah landed more decent shots in the round, with Sunny struggling to stay upright all the while.
The inevitable referee decision was a foregone conclusion, with Hasbullah emerging as the winner and new BMAEX 2017 champion.
