Jainab wants to defend Karambunai seat

-

KOTA KINABALU: Karambunai assemblywoman Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid is keen to defend the seat in the 14th general election (GE14).

As the incumbent, she said she is ready to do so despite knowing that there are parties who feel otherwise about her stepping in as a candidate.

“If I am given another chance, I will defend, but it is up to the top leadership,” she responded to a question from The Borneo Post at the presentation of Sabah government basic school aid to SK Pengiran Siti Hafsah here yesterday.

“If I am given the chance, I would really want to,” added Jainab, who is Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister.

Jainab said if there is teamwork and appreciation for its existence, Umno will be able to keep the Karambunai state constituency under the party’s belt.

Nevertheless, as the current Karambunai state assemblywoman and Umno Sepanggar Wanita chief, Jainab said she will continue to carry on with her responsibilities in the constituency.

She assured that the grassroots leaders selected by her will continue to focus on helping the people in the constituency.

When it comes to the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) hold of Sabah after GE14, Jainab said it depends on whether the people can tell the difference between a diamond and a stone. She believed that the state will remain as the coalition’s stronghold and a majority win can be achieved throughout Malaysia, if the people looked back at all the efforts that the ruling government had done in order to help the people.

“This will happen if all the people understand, are not confused and do not want to be confused (by the opposition). It is a matter of wanting or not, being grateful or not,” she said.

“It is up to a point where even the shoe that I am wearing has been made to go viral. Isn’t that crazy? We (the government) are the ones bringing so much things in (to help the recent flood victims) but there is an opposition person taking a picture there, pretending to be the one giving it out.

“I would like to ask for the MACC (Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission) to take action on the people making this viral. I know who made it viral but I do not want to say the name,” she added.

According to Jainab, the 2018 Sabah government basic school aid to the 280,353 pupils in 1,071 schools across 24 districts throughout Sabah commenced in July 2017.

She said in Kota Kinabalu alone, there are 38,171 recipients from 58 primary schools. These included the 269 recipients from SK Pengiran Siti Hafsah in Karambunai.
