Family finally gets home under govt’s housing assistance

LAHAD DATU: A ten-year wait for a family at Kampung Sepagaya Hilir ended on a happy note yesterday when they received the keys of their house built under the People Housing Assistance Project (PBR) of the government.

Zarinah Abd Wahab, a mother of five children, said that they had been trying to get their own house since ten years ago, when they had their first child. As they were not successful, they had to rent a house.

“I am, however, thankful to have the opportunity to meet a representative for the area, Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal, during his visit to this village.

“I told him (Yusof) about our problem and the cost we need to bear to rent a house. He told me to apply for a house under the People Housing Assistance Project and “Alhamdulillah” (Praise to Allah), we have our own house today,” she said during the presentation of a mock house key yesterday by Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal.

Zarinah said she is happy that the government is fulfilling its obligation to ensure that every rakyat will own a home eventually as a way to overcome the people’s problems.

Meanwhile, Sakar bin Darmo, a retired officer of the State Religious Affairs Department (JHEINS), said that having own house is like a dream come true.

Sakar, who took possession of his house at Kampung Jawa yesterday, said that the government is certainly obliged to continue implementing such programme as it will benefit the lesser well-off people.

Meanwhile, Yusof, who is also Silam Umno division chief, said that providing assistance to the people is the obligation of the ruling Barisan Nasional government. The government, he said, is duty bound to always help the people through the provision of various projects and assistance to ensure the people’s comfort and wellbeing.
