Cop impersonator nabbed over alleged sodomy of boy
KUCHING: A man who impersonated a policeman was arrested last week for allegedly sodomising an underaged boy here last week.
District police chief Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the 33-year-old suspect allegedly committed the act near a school in Demak Laut along with an accomplice.
"After the incident, the boy sought assistance from his family and lodged a police report. The suspect was caught on January 7 and a check showed he possessed previous records for drug-related cases," he said after leading a monthly assembly at the district police headquarters at Jalan Simpang Tiga.
Abang Ahmad also reminded motorcycle owners to use extra locks on their machines as thieves are now resorting to using vans to haul off targeted bikes.
He also warned motorists against filing false police reports claiming theft of their motorcycle when, in fact, they were unable to pay its monthly installment.
"We have found such cases before and they can be charged for making false report," he said.
Earlier, Abang Ahmad said a recent poll held by an independent body from University Utara Malaysia revealed that about 86.6 per cent of respondents felt Kuching is a safe city to live.
"This shows confidence amongst the public towards the police in performing their duties and ensuring safety to the public," he added.
