KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has served Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Rafizi Ramli a letter of demand for apology within seven days.

Abdul Rahman said the letter of demand dated Jan 5, 2018 issued to Rafizi through his lawyers Messrs Raja Riza & Associates, was in connection with the false and malicious statement made about him in awarding the Ekspo Negaraku 2017 contract.

“Among others, the letter calls on Rafizi to retract his statement and publish an apology within seven days from the date of the letter,” he said in a statement.

Abdul Rahman said the duration of the demand letter had not expired.

If Rafizi failed to abide by the demand letter within the stipulated period, the Umno Supreme Council member said he would instruct his lawyers to file a defamation suit against the Pandan Member of Parliament.

He said an attempt to deliver the letter directly to Rafizi failed as he was not at his office at the Pandan parliamentary constituency service centre.

“A second attempt was made yesterday (Jan 8) at the same address but he was again not at his office. As such, the demand letter was accepted by Mohd Shariffudin who is believed to be a staff member at the Pandan parliamentary service centre,” he said.

Rafizi had previously alleged that the Ekspo Negaraku contract was awarded to Abdul Rahman’s elder brother Raslan Dahlan through a company allegedly belonging to him, leading to Abdul Rahman resorting to legal action as Raslan is not his sibling.

On Monday, Rafizi was reported to have said that he had not received a defamation suit against him although three weeks had passed since Abdul Rahman said he would take legal action against him. – Bernama
