MPOB to hold palm oil economic review & outlook seminar

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will organise a Palm Oil Economic Review and Outlook Seminar on Jan 18, at Putrajaya Mariott Hotel, Putrajaya.

In a statement yesterday, MPOB said the seminar would be officiated by Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

The seminar will disclose the statistics in the oil palm industry in 2017 and outlook for this year for the three major producing countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

“Performance of the Malaysian oil palm industry for 2017 recorded improvements in planted areas, production volume, and export earnings, albeit worrying high palm oil closing stock,” MPOB said, adding that some 300 participants in the oil palm fraternity were expected to attend the seminar.

Apart from review and outlook, the seminar will also highlight the government’s initiatives in enhancing competitiveness and sustainability of the oil palm industry.

MPOB Director-General, Datuk Dr Ahmad Kushairi Din, said the seminar would provide a window of opportunity for discussions and exchange of views to strengthen palm oil trade in the global oils and fats market.

“Besides presenters from Malaysia, Indonesia will talk on the performance and outlook of the Indonesian oil palm industry, while a speaker from the United Kingdom will highlight the outlook of the global oils and fats industry,” he added.
