KOTA KINABALU: Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia is holding a comprehensive “Global Warming and Environmental Protection” Exhibition at Tun Ahmad Rafae Auditorium, Yayasan Sabah here starting today.

Its person in-charge C K Chong, said 1,500 students from 30 primary and secondary school, and higher learning institutions are expected to turn up today and 2,000 people are targeted to visit on the second day.

“People must be aware that our mother earth is suffering now. The temperature, the climate of the world is getting bad. So what can we do? If everybody does a little bit at least there will still be hope for our future generations,” said Chong.

“We also want our children to know that in this world these things are happening,” he added.

Chong said people in Sabah should do their bit in overcoming the worldwide global warming issue.

He hoped that children and families would start to recycle after attending this exhibition as only about 3% of people are recycling in Kota Kinabalu.

Tzu Chi volunteers have started planning and preparing for this exhibition since October last year, using recycled cardboards, kitchen towel roll holders, PET bottles and other discarded materials to create realistic natural disaster exhibits and exquisite art pieces.

“We humans are the cause of the earth’s ailing condition, so we are the only ones who can help the earth. The exhibition aims to explain how humans are damaging the earth and what we can do to heal it,” he said.

“It will also showcase various symptoms of our mother earth’s illness such as global warming, seawater oxidation, melting icebergs, flood, wind disasters, fires, earthquakes and et cetera. Volunteers will be present to explain every symptom and its exhibits, making it a truly educational visit for families, teachers and students alike.

“Furthermore, the gallery is equipped with a Greenhouse Effect Area, Global Village, The Green Tea, Da-Ai Technology, JingSi and Humanities Exhibit. The main objective of this exhibition is to promote the concept of ‘Environmental cleansing at its source’,” he added.

Schools, business organizations, government agencies and the media are invited to come and learn about environmental protection, saving electricity and water, how to detect earth’s warning signs, save the earth and ensure continuity of earth’s varied life forms.

Through this exhibition, Tzu Chi also hopes to gather more people to join them in their purposeful charitable and environmental protection quests.
