PETALING JAYA: Actor Datuk Farid Kamil, who allegedly assaulted a policeman and another civilian at the Kota Damansara police station yesterday, will spend the next three nights in lockup.

Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said a four-day remand was granted but did not give further details.

The 37-year-old, who tested positive for marijuana, arrived at the PJ courthouse around 10.20am in a police truck before being escorted to the remand room.

Wearing a purple lockup uniform, he re-emerged from the room some 15 minutes later but this time with a jacket over his head. He was later taken to the magistrate’s court.

Magistrate Zaki Ashyraf Zubir then granted the four-day remand; Farid was seen exiting the courtroom about 10 minutes later.

Farid is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) for administration of drugs and Section 90 of the Police Act 1996 for acting indecently in a police station.

The actor is also being investigated under Section 323 and 353 of the Penal Code, for voluntarily causing hurt and for using criminal force to deter a public servant from carrying out his duties.

This comes following Thursday’s incident that saw a policeman slapped across his face and another civilian kicked in the leg allegedly by Farid at the police station.

When the officer on duty questioned Farid about the accident he had come to report, he flashed his mobile phone at the policeman showing a message that read “300 artistes borrowing money from loan sharks due to lack of jobs.”

As the officer questioned Farid over the relevance of the message, he was slapped on his face, before Farid lashed out again and kicked a another person within the station.

He was then immediately apprehended and handcuffed, following the incident that was witnessed by a police corporal and three other people.

Farid’s first breakthrough role was when he was paired with popular actress Erra Fazira in the thriller Tujuh Perhentian in 2004.

Since then he has starred in and directed many movies which were box-office hits such as Anak Halal, Evolusi KL Drift, Kala Bulan Mengambang, V3 Samseng Jalanan and Tombiruo.

Farid has also starred in and directed films Kongsi and PE3, while appearing on the small screen in shows Qanun 99, and Jodoh Itu Milik Kita, and telemovies Sedikit Waktu and Syukur Syawal.
