KUCHING:

Police arrested a husband and wife in their 40s on Thursday after various types of drugs worth RM194,976 were found in their Muara Tabuan apartment around 4pm.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai revealed that the haul involved 613.89 grams of syabu, 750 Erimin 5 pills, and 140 Ecstasy pills.

“Both suspects in this case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, which carries the death penalty if found guilty,” Abang Ahmad told a press conference yesterday.

He said the male suspect, a 45-year-old Sarawakian, tested positive for methamphetamine, while his 40-year-old Indonesian wife tested negative.

“The male suspect has also admitted to selling drugs starting last year. Both suspects have shown no past criminal records,” he said.

He said the arrests were made by the district Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) led by Insp Khairul Faiz Zaini following a tip-off.

Abang Ahmad said the NCID team first approached the male suspect at the apartment’s car park, where he willingly handed over a black satchel containing syabu weighing 2.1 grams and 100 Erimin 5 pills.

Upon further inquiry, the male suspect then led police to his apartment where the remaining drugs were found stashed in a room.

The female suspect was also in the apartment.

Besides the drugs, police also seized a car and cash totalling RM2,000 from the suspects, who have been placed under a seven-day remand order.
