KKIA facilities in need of upgrade

-

KOTA KINABALU: The facilities at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) need to be improved, according to Luyang assemblyman Datuk Hiew King Cheu.

He said he inspected the facilities after receiving complaints from the general public, especially travellers.

Among the complaints are insufficient lighting in certain parts of the airport terminal, like the corridor, waiting area, boarding halls and in front of the immigration counters.

Apparently many of the lights at the airport are no longer bright which resulted in very dim lighting, he said.

Hiew said he requested the management to change all the low efficiency lights to high performance LED light which will brighten the airport to the required standard.

He was told that the airport maintenance department is in the process of changing to more LED lights.

“KKIA handles some 7.50 million passengers annually, and the number of passengers is increasing very fast due to the high influx of tourists coming to visit Sabah through this gateway.

“Therefore, to give our valued tourists a very good impression of our beautiful Sabah, we must ensure that our airport terminal looks comfortable and presentable,” said Hiew.

Hiew said the other area of concern is the toilet condition which is not that clean and worse still there is no tissue paper in the dispensers.

“This situation hopefully can be improved with the newly appointed contractor who has just taken over the job a week ago. But anyhow, the airport maintenance team must be alert at all times to make regular inspection on all the facilities. Any complaints will affect us all and also damage the impression of our tourists toward Sabah,” he said.
