Lu Han tops Baidu searches, TFBoys still among the top

BEIJING: Search engine records from Baidu last year showed that Lu Han remain at the summit, with TFBoys still among the top attraction­s.

Baidu is the top search engine in China, and there are some 750 million Internet users in the county.

Pop star Lu Han — often known as China’s Justin Bieber — already holds the Guinness World Record for most comments on a Weibo microblog post (more than 100 million for a post about English soccer squad Manchester United).

It was no surprise when Lu Han, previously of the K-pop band EXO, had again smashed Internet search records last October by disclosing that he has a new girlfriend.

Online buzz was so overwhelmi­ng that servers at Weibo crashed. Also buzz-worthy was the teen boy band TFBoys.

But last year also saw a deepening tension among each of the boys’ fan factions, or weifen — a Chinese term for fans who exclusivel­y support a certain member of a group.

Since the band first hit the stage four years ago, each member’s weifen had harboured grudges against the other members and their respective fans for alleged irregulari­ties in promoting their idols.

Last September, their agents announced plans to set up separate studios for each boy to give them more personalis­ed developmen­t.

However, each member’s agent insist the trio is not heading for a split.
