Engineering consultant for Labuan Bridge study appointed

-

KOTAKINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday announced the appointment of an engineering consultant to study the techno-economic aspect of Labuan Bridge.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Bin Dahlan said this was a significant step towards the building of Labuan Bridge, the long-awaited project by the people of Labuan and Sabah.

He said the consultant's study was not a social economic study, as that was already done by the universities, but a techno-economic study which would cover engineering, technical, financial modelling, to name some.

"This is a crucial procedure before we can start building the bridge," he said.

"Just like RTS and HSR, project Jambatan Labuan Sabah (JLS) is yet another grand vision of the Prime Minister to provide seamless connectivity to the people of Malaysia. JLS is another game changer project under the Prime Minister's long term vision. His vision for Malaysia is working.

He said JLS (Jambatan Labuan Sabah) was not just for Labuan, but was also for the southern region of Sabah and northern region of Sarawak.

"These areas will receive economic boost through JLS as its catalyst. Imagine people in Sipitang, Sabah and Lawas, Sarawak no longer have to drive for hours to Kota Kinabalu to fly out of KK International Airport. Now they just drive leisurely to Labuan International Airport through JLS," he said.
