BN to ensure unity remains strong — Tangau

-

TUARAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) will continue to ensure the unity among the various religions and multi-racial people remains strong.

In this respect, Upko acting president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau assured the party was relentless in protecting unity in diversity from any threat to destroy it.

Speaking after attending the district-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at the town field here yesterday, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation attributed the strong unity to the peace and harmony the country has been enjoying all this while.

“Peace and harmony are the main recipe for stability and for this reason, the BN government has been able to channel development programmes to the people smoothly,” he said.

Hence, he said it was imperative for the strong unity to be safeguarded at all costs.

Tangau, who is also member of parliament for Tuaran, said the fact that Upko has two chairmen heading its Religious and Racial Harmony Bureau representing the Muslims and non-Muslims was a testimony to the party’s commitment.

For the record, Upko Tuaran Religious and Racial Harmony Bureau was also among the contingents taking part in the Maulidur Rasul procession that was led by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Noor.

“We must never allow any element, be it internal or external, to threaten our peace and harmony. There is no room for extremism in Sabah,” he said.

Tangau said the BN’s track record in maintaining unity was impressive and this became more glaring ever since Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak took office.

A total of 47 contingents comprising nearly 300 people took part in the procession around the town here.

The Tuaran Umno Women movement was judged the best contingent while the Science Secondary School contingent sent the most number of participants.

The Tuaran Native Court won in the Ministry/Departments/Private category.

Also present were Tamparuli Community Development Leader (PPM) Datuk Jahid Jahim, Kiulu PPM Kumin Gapai representing Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and community leaders.
