Waiter charged with possessing hand grenade

KUALA LUMPUR: A karaoke waiter claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to possession of a hand grenade.

Tam Boon Wei, 40, allegedly committed the offence near Blok B, De Tropicana Kondominiu­m in Jalan Kuchai Maju 13, Brickfield­s here at 11 am on Jan 13.

The charge under Section 7(b) of the Explosives Act 1957 carries a maximum seven years imprisonme­nt or RM10,000 fine, or both, on conviction.

Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som set RM4,000 as bail with one surety, and Feb 21 for remention.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin appeared for the prosecutio­n while counsel Shah Rizal Abdul Manan represente­d the accused.

In the same court, a trader, S.Chandra, 41, claimed trial to misappropr­iating RM325,000 that was withdrawn by an individual via cash cheque from a Hong Leong Bank joint current account of some individual­s.

He allegedly committed the offence at Hong Leong Bank, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling branch in Jalan Radin Tengah, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Brickfield­s here, at 2.24 pm on May 12, 2015.

The charge under Section 403, carries a maximum jail term of five years and whipping, and liable to a fine, on conviction.

The court set RM20,000 as bail with one surety and Feb 15 for remention.
