Masseur fined for threatening ex-employer

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A masseur was fined RM6,000 in default 12 months’ jail by the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for issuing murder threats against his former employer and her husband last year.

Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali meted out the sentence on Abdul Hafiz Rahim, 29, who pleaded guilty to the charges.

Abdul Hafiz admitted to committing criminal intimidation through Whatsapp by mentioning the word ‘dead’ for several times against Fakhita Halim, 55, director of a foot reflexology centre and Muhamad Shafie Zulkarai, 35, the public relations officer at the same massage parlour.

The offences were committed at Block B, Dataran Palma, Jalan Selaman 1 here at 11.53 am on Nov 14 last year and the charge, under Section 507 of the Penal Code provides an imprisonment for up to two years, or fine, or both, upon conviction.

In mitigation, Abdul Hafiz, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency saying that he did not do it on purpose. However deputy public prosecutor Norhashimah Hashim asked for a punitive sentence as the offence was serious and had caused fear to the victims and their family.

According to the facts of the case, both victims received a threatening message via their mobile phones from an unknown number.

The couple who were in fear had lodged a police report and the investigations by a telecommunications company found that the number was registered under the accused’s name who was a former employee of the victim. - Bernama
