Elderly woman injured in five-vehicle crash

KOTA KINABALU: An elderly woman sustained minor injuries after her Perodua Viva car was involved in a five-vehicle collision at the Lido traffic light junction here yesterday morning.

The multiple collision of vehicles occurred around 4.50 am when a van rammed into the rear of the victim's Perodua Viva car and causing it to also crash into the rear of another Perodua Myvi car. The van went on to ram into a Proton Saga car and causing it to slam into the rear of another Proton Saga car.

Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue station chief, Dahlan Jainudin, said a distress call was received at 5 am and two fire engines with nine personnel were rushed to the scene within minutes.

“The driver of the Perodua Viva was found pinned to her seat and it took a couple of minutes for us to free her. The victim, aged 78, was immediatel­y taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for outpatient treatment,” he said, adding that all the vehicles were heading to Penampang from Kota Kinabalu when the incident happened.

Four hours before this incident, a 25-yearold man escaped with injuries after he lost control of his Perodua Viva car along Jalan Luyang here around 1 am.

The man was believed to be heading towards Luyang from the city centre when he reportedly lost control of the car and crashed into the opposite lane.

The man was pinned to his seat and it took several hours for the fire fighters to free him. He was immediatel­y rushed to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
