Navy vessel to be stationed at Sepanggar among best
KOTA KINABALU: KD Selangor, one of the four new generation patrol vessels that will be stationed at the Sepanggar Naval Base, will set an example to other Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) vessels in the region.
Eastern Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Datuk Syed Zahiruddin Putra Syed Osman said the new generation patrol vessel was considered one of the best vessels under the RMN.
KD Selangor has an excellent record in terms of performance, operation, maintenance, hygiene and professionalism of its crew members. Her achievement (KD Selangor) can be used an example for other vessels that are currently stationed at the Eastern Fleet Command operation.
This will allow us to identify any weaknesses and ways to enhance and strengthen our other assets,” he said at a press conference at the arrival of KD Selanggor with 109 crew members at the Sepanggar Naval Base here yesterday.
KD Selangor, previously stationed at the Lumut Naval Base, is one of four new generation patrol vessels that will be stationed at the Sepanggar Naval Base to strengthen the Eastern Fleet Command operation.
The other three assets are KD Kelantan, which will arrive March this year, while KD Terengganu and KD Pahang are expected to arrive by 2019.
Meanwhile, Syed Zahiruddin said RMN would acquire 200 additional houses for his men in view of the limited lodging within the Sepanggar Naval Base.
“We have rented 200 houses and will rent additional 200 units as there are not enough houses to accommodate our navy personnel,” he said.
