SSPN1M savings for 200 Tawau students

-

TAWAU: The National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributed RM10,000 savings in the 1Malaysia National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN1M) accounts of 200 students under the Tawau parliamentary area.

Each student was given a RM50 savings plus school necessities.

Deputy Higher Education Minister, Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching thanked PTPTN for helping the needy and hoped that the contributions would ease the burden of the parents especially in preparing their children’¦s schooling.

She also urged the parents to treat SSPM1M as a starting point to keep savings and enjoy the incentive given for the future of their children.

Mary said PTPTN was now being proactive in its effort to make the community engage in saving for high learning purposes and it would be a very good effort that should be responded positively by the Malaysian community.

“The SSPN1M is currently the people’s choice in their effort to save for the future of their children.

“It shows that the number of those who open an account is increasing from year to year; now standing at 3.2 million accounts with RM3.37 billion deposited by December 31, 2017.

“Up to now, the dividend rate has achieved 4.25 per cent yearly and it is the only savings plan being given tax relief up to RM12,000 per year to the parents as well as the takaful protection which is up to RM1 million subject to selected savings packages,” she said.

On the other hand, the Senior General Manager of PTPTN, Abdul Ghaffar bin Yusof also disclosed that PTPTN had given out RM51.9 billion loans to 2.81 million of students in Malaysia so far and in Sabah alone, RM4.2 billion loans had been given to students.

From January 1 to 30, 2018, he said the government would give a one-off RM500 to 500,000 Malaysian students aged seven to 12, provided they open an SSPN1M account with a minimum deposit of RM500.
