-

TUARAN: The Sabah Cancer Volunteers' Association (PSKS) will be holding an event to mark this year's World Cancer Day on February 4 at the Tuaran Futsal Arena.

PSKS's president, Lawrence Libur Imui, in announcing this in a statement here, said that the event, will be officiated by the patron of PSKS, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Hj Noor, who is Sulaman assemblyman and also Local Government and Housing Minister.

“This is the second time we are marking this important international day, but this year we will be hosting the event in Tuaran,” Imui said.

“February 4 is recognized worldwide as the day for the global community to be united in their awareness for the need to fight against cancer as a way to prevent millions of unnecessary deaths every year. This can be achieved by raising awareness and education about this illness and to seek support from governments, groups and individuals all over the world to come together to take positive action.”

Imui, who is also the organising chairman, said that another event which is already attracting participants is the six kilometre World Cancer Day Run starting from the Tuaran Futsal Arena. He said the run will help PSKS in its fundraising effort while encouraging people to adopt an active and exercising lifestyle.

“Those who have not yet registered for the run are urged to contact us as soon as possible. This is very much in line with this year's world Cancer Day slogan of ‘We can, I can' which is also a call for commitment from all to fight cancer everywhere,” Imui added.
