SEMPORNA: Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Ramlee Marahaban handed over the RM8 million Pasar Awam Sejahtera project’s warrant to the contractor on Friday as part of efforts to improve the quality of life of people here.

Ramlee said this project would have a huge impact on the people of Semporna as they had been waiting for what they called their dream market.

“This project is proof that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government is committed, responsible and a caring government.

“BN works hard to fulfil its promises for the good of the people,” he said.

Ramlee, who is also Sabah Umno information deputy chief, said there had been a lot of allegations being thrown against the BN, especially by the opposition about this project.

He said the opposition was fond of twisting a lot of things and claiming that the groundbreaking ceremony of this project earlier this year by Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman was just a gimmick.

“But today, with the handover of the warrant to the contractor, the construction work can start.

“We, the Barisan Nasional government, truthfully want to complete this project as soon as possible so that people could use it,” he said.

Ramlee, who is also Bugaya Assemblyman, said the new market cost RM8 million and out of that RM7 million came from the state government and RM1 million from the federal government.

Ramlee said the project was expected to be completed in 18 months.

However, he urged the contractor to speed up the process and complete the project earlier than 18 months.

He said the new market that would be built on a 1.5-acre land would be equipped with various facilities for the convenience and comfort of the people.

“This market will have 171 tables for fish, chicken and meat, vegetables and other products, with 34 parking lots and other facilities,” he said.

Ramlee said that as the local leader in Semporna, he would continue to work hard with other leaders to transform Semporna.

He said there was still a lot of infrastruture developments that need to be implemented here.

“We hope that people will continue to support the BN government so that we could continue to develop this district for the well-being of the people,” he added.
