Special rental waiver for festival at sports complex continues this year

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Sports Board's special rental which was waived in the previous years for the United Sabah Chinese Communitie­s Associatio­n of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) to organise the 2018 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival, will be continued this year.

Sabah Sports Board chairman Datuk Louis Rampas confirmed this yesterday, saying that the special rental rate on the venue for 2018 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival would be continuall­y given according to previous years' offer.

President of The United Sabah Chinese Communitie­s Associatio­n of Kota Kinabalu, Datuk Susan Wong and the committee members paid a courtesy call to Louis on February 19 and received the “Good News”, which would ease the burden in organising of the annual Chinese cultural event.

Susan expressed her gratitude to Louis and Sabah Sports Board for such a kind offer, and it is an effort from state government institute to support promotion on Chinese culture.

Susan said this year's event would be held on February 3 at the Likas Sports Complex, and the organising committee had grant permission from the Sabah Sports Board for early access into the walkway to start the decoration at the end of this month. The indoor setting up are allowed to start from February 1 onwards.

Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival is an annual event organised by USCCAKK which gains recognitio­n as signature Chinese New Year event in Kota Kinabalu, successful­ly attracting the participat­ion of multiracia­l locals and tourists, to eye-witness on the diversific­ation of culture in the land below the wind.

A series of breathtaki­ng Dragon Unicorn Lion dance performanc­e will start at 1pm until 7pm.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Hj Aman has been invited as the Guest of Honour to officiate at the 2018 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival at 2.30pm.

The Cultural Village Exhibition will be open to the public visiting from 8am onwards until 6pm, officiated by the honourable Liang CaiDe, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu.

An unforgetta­ble experience on the authentic Sabahan Chinese hospitalit­y filled with varieties of pastries and tea will be presented by 15 Chinese Communitie­s Associatio­ns. Feel the cherish of Chinese New Year with Dragon Unicorn Lion Dance and Cheongsam Pageant Show.

2018 Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival cum Cultural Village Exhibition are open for public with free admission.
