PAS to vie for 130 parliament seats

SHAH ALAM: PAS will contest in more than 130 parliamentary constituencies to enable the party to form its own government should it win the 14th General Election (GE14), said party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang yesterday.

He said the party would have to win more than 130 seats, or at least 112 seats for a simple majority in the 222-seat Parliament .

“PAS wants to form a government or take part in the formation of the government. We no longer want to be a weak opposition,” he told a press conference after launching the Selangor PAS election machinery for GE14 at the Fastaqim Gathering 2.4 here yesterday.

Also present were PAS vicepresident Idris Ahmad, Selangor PAS Commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi and former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

PAS contested in 73 parliamentary seats and won 21 of them in the previous general election.

Six of the 21 seats are held by its fraction party, Parti Amanah Negara, while the Pokok Sena seat was lost after its incumbent Datuk Mahfuz Omar left the party early this year.

Abdul Hadi said PAS was also determined to win Selangor in GE14.

“Selangor should be an example. We hope that the people of Selangor will choose the Islamic leadership,” he said.

It was reported that Selangor PAS targeted to win at least 42 out of the 56 state seats in the state, including Bukit Antarabangsa, which was won by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, and Kajang which was won by Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
