Defend Putrajaya from falling to opposition – Tengku Adnan
PUTRAJAYA: The people of Putrajaya must defend the federal administrative centre from falling into the hands of the opposition for the sake of the future of the nation, said Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Putrajaya MP, said talk that the important seat would be won by the opposition was just that and that it would not influence the residents of Putrajaya, most of whom are civil servants.
“People can say what they like. Some people talk as though a big thunder is coming. But thunder does not necessarily means it will rain.
“The existing government has been looking after the interest of the people for 60 years. So, don't pour out the stored water upon hearing thunder,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after launching a campaign to fly the flag of the Federal Territories to symbolise the start of the 2018 Federal Territories Day celebration, here yesterday. The celebration falls on Feb 1 each year.
Tengku Adnan was referring to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir who has announced that he would either be contesting in Kubang Pasu, Langkawi or Putrajaya in the 14th General Election, which has to be called by August this year. Dr Mahathir is now heading opposition pact Pakatan Harapan.
Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan said more than 35 programmes had been drawn up for February in conjunction with the celebration with the content extolling the concept of cheerfulness and wellbeing of the people in line with the theme 'Wilayah Ceria Rakyat Sejahtera.'
Among the programmes which will take place at Putrajaya are a special Friday sermon on Jan 26, Putrajaya Chess Festival (Feb 10), Putrajaya 1Federal Territory Feast (Feb 11) and World Robomaker Championship (Feb 28).
During the event yesterday, Tengku Adnan also flagged off the Federal Territories Flag Waving convoy involving 22 four-wheel drive vehicles to travel to seven locations including the Kampung Baru Food Court and the Sentul Urban Transformation Centre in Kuala Lumpur to distribute the Federal Territories flag, and ending in Pantai Dalam.
