KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) in Sabah are ready for the coming 14th General Election, said Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din.

“This includes an ongoing training which we have started since last year, to ensure a smooth general election.

“As a matter of fact, my men and women are already prepared whenever the election is being called,” he said at the monthly gathering at the state police headquarters in Kepayan yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ramli praised the Sabah police and security forces for their commitment in safeguarding the east coast waters as not a single report of kidnapping incident took place in 2017.

“Ongoing patrol operations, information sharing and cooperation with our neighbouring countries have managed to cripple many kidnapping attempts as well as cross-border criminal activities.”

Ramli also said that the Sabah police solved 77.32 percent of crime cases in 2017, the highest compared to other police districts in the country.

“We have also detained 127 individuals from 34 criminal groups involved in burglaries, thefts of vehicles and electric cables.

“For drug cases, we have detained 1,282 suspects in 2017 as compared to 892 suspects the year before,” he said, adding that the narcotic department had also seized about 171.45 kilograms of syabu last year as compared to only 39.3 kilograms of syabu in 2016.

Ramli said commercial cases, however, increased to 547 cases or 1,597 cases with losses of RM91.3 million in 2017, as compared to 1,050 cases with losses of RM78.7 million in 2016.
