Chef fined RM2,000 for slapping colleague
KOTA KINABALU: A head chef was fined RM2,000, in default, six months’ jail for slapping his colleague on her face.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus imposed the fine on Ng Hon Siong, 46, after he pleaded guilty to committing the offence yesterday.
He had slapped Angeline Johnny, 50, on her face in front of Fish Market Restaurant office in Warisan Square here at 2.30pm on December 1, 2017.
The offence was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to a year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, upon conviction.
Ng’s lawyer had told the court that his client had surrendered himself to the police which showed that he was remorseful.
The accused also has three children to support.
Meanwhile, prosecuting officer Inspector Albert Basirin requested for a deterrent sentence to be imposed on the accused.
Based on the facts, the accused was dissatisfied with the complainant (Angeline) regarding food serving delays.
The complainant blamed kitchen workers for being slow in preparing food which caused the delays of food serving to customers.
Thus, the accused met the complainant to discuss the matter but he had slapped her instead. Three witnesses saw her sitting on the floor after being slapped on the face.
The complainant then lodged a police report on the same day at 4.40pm that she was punched by the accused on her left cheek.
