SANDAKAN: A 40-year-old immigrant was sentenced to 12 months jail for breaking into a sewage treatment plant at Bandar Letat at Mile 3 Labuk Road here and stealing the dynamo of a sewage machine.

Ajibin Hairin and his local accomplice, Chong Tei Wai, had pleaded guilty before magistrate Faelly Jeffrey Lanjungan for a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Chong, who waited in the vehicle while Ajibin stole the machine, was fined RM5,000, in default, ten months jail.

The facts of the case stated that on December 16, 2017, at around 2pm, the supervisor of the sewage treatment plant at Bandar Letat was informed by his worker that a suspicious man was seen illegally entering the treatment plant area. The supervisor immediately reported the matter to the police.

When the police inspected the site around 5pm that day, they arrested Chong who was in a van. Found in the van were the dynamo of a sewage machine and tools used to remove the machine.

Acting on information provided by Chong, police arrested Ajibin at Kampung Pengiran Galpam at Mile 7 Labuk road at 7.15pm on the same day. Investigation revealed that the modus operandi was for Ajibin to steal the machine and put it inside the van while Chong waited.

As Ajibin did not possess any identification document, he was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after serving his sentence.
