Kimanis fire station to be in operation by March

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Kimanis fire station in Papar is expected to be in operation by March this year.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Nordin Pauzi said, the Kimanis fire station was about 80 to 90 percent completed and would be in operation by March.

“Yes, it will be in operation soon. Only some minor works around the station need to be completed but the building and facilities have been completed,” Nordin said at a press conference during the monthly gathering held at the State Fire and Rescue headquarters in Litas here yesterday.

Also present were Sabah Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Zuraidah Latip and senior officers.

Nordin said that all the assets, including fire and rescue personnel from Papar station are on standby to be mobilized to Kimanis within a couple of weeks.

On the Beluran fire station, Nordin said the fire station had been in operation since December last year.

The Kimanis fire station, located about 2.5km from the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT), will reduce response times during an emergency.

There is a need for a fire station in Kimanis due to the high risk of fire as SOGT is within that area.

The fire station in Beluran is seen as a strategic move as it is located between Sandakan and Tawau, making it faster for firefighters to provide assistance to both districts.

It is learnt that the Kimanis fire station cost around RM5 million while the Beluran fire station, which is equipped with staff quarters, cost around RM7 million.
