Sabah first to complete corruption free pledge – MACC
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is the first state in the country to complete all of its corruption free pledges (IBRs), in line with the initiative of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
State MACC deputy director Zulkefle Abdul Hamid said Sabah managed to complete the IBR of all its state-level agencies in December last year.
“At the national level, Sabah is the first state to complete all of its state-level IBR for every single of its ministries, departments and agencies.
“With that said, I on behalf of the national and state branches of MACC would like to thank the Sabah state government,” he said to reporters at the state Malaysian Cooperative Societies Commission’s (SKM) IBR ceremony yesterday. It is understood that the the remaining federal-level agencies in the state are also expected to complete their own IBR.
He disclosed that the aforementioned state-level agencies comprised both government and private institutions, adding that the MACC was also open to any NGOs who might be interested in conducting their own IBR.
Commenting on the public’s perception on corruption, Zulkefle said he was pleased to note that most of the members of the public were now more aware of the risks of the despicable act.
“There will be no recipients if there are no givers,” he said in advising the public.
Meanwhile, state SKM director Umar Sarim Hj Saidin thanked the state MACC for its efforts in curbing corruption in the state.
“Today’s IBR was participated by more than 100 of our members (comprising divisional and regional chiefs) from all 11 SKM regions in the state.”
Umar also encouraged all the corporations under SKM Sabah to participate in the IBR initiative.
Currently, SKM Sabah has over 1,452 corporations, comprising 318,000 members and assets worth more than RM774 million, Umar said.
He added that SKM Sabah had more than RM169 million in its total shares and fees.
