PKR yet to decide on candidate for Miri

-

MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will contest in the Miri parliamentary seat for Pakatan Harapan (PH) but the party has yet to decide on its candidate.

PKR Miri chief Dr Michael Teo, who is the incumbent for the seat, would not confirm whether he would defend the seat.

“I will not say anything about the candidate for Miri. Let the top leadership decide who is the candidate to be fielded from PKR,” Dr Teo told a press conference yesterday.

“Our PKR top leadership will decide about the candidate to be fielded for the Miri seat when the time comes.”

Rumours are rife that Dr Teo could be replaced by either PKR women’s national vice-president Voon Shiak Ni or PKR Miri youth chief Steve Teo.

Dr Teo said, as the incumbent, he will continue serving the people here.

“The seat allocation for Miri is settled for PKR and there is no more issue,” he added.

State Democratic Action Party (DAP) chief Chong Chieng Jen had said last year that the party is not interested to contest in the Miri parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile, Voon called on all voters here not to boycott going to the polls or spoil their votes during the upcoming parliamentary election.

“With low (voter) turnout, BN will stay in power and will get back its two-thirds majority,” she said.

She claimed if the voter turnout is only 70 per cent, BN will retain power and be able to amend laws without opposition.
