Globes win boost consumer demand for 'Big Little Lies'

-

AUDIENCE demand for the HBO miniseries was up 180 per cent the week after the Golden Globes, compared to the week before the awards. Moreover, compared to its initial screening, February-April 2017, the show’s popularity soared by over 500 per cent the day after its Golden Globes victory, Jan 9, according to a Parrot Analytics study.

Anyone doubting the interest of awards ceremonies like the Golden Globes and the Oscars has a partial explanation from Parrot Analytics. A recent study from the research firm reveals that all of the winners in the TV categories of the 75th Golden Globes have benefited from their wins.

Leading the way is the HBO original creation “Big Little Lies,” which won four awards in the miniseries/TV film category: Best Miniseries or TV Film, Best Actress for Nicole Kidman, Best Supporting Actress for Laura Dern and Best Supporting Actor for Alexander Skarsgard. The day after the wins, the series — based on the book of the same name by Liane Moriarty — saw a 500 per cent increase in popularity compared to its pre-ceremony screening and a 180 per cent increase in consumer demand compared to the week before the Golden Globes.

With two gongs — for Best Musical or Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (Rachel Brosnahan), Amazon’s new show “The Marvellous Mrs Maisel” also got a boost in popularity from one week to the next, with audience demand up by over 100 per cent . Between its online release in November and the day after the ceremony, demand increased 265 per cent .

Demand was also up for Netflix comedy “Master of None,” which scored a win for lead actor Aziz Ansari; NBC’s “This Is Us,” which won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series (Sterling K. Brown); “The Handmaid’s Tale” on Hulu, which won two awards (Best Drama TV Series and Best Actress in a Drama TV Series for Elisabeth Moss); and FX’s “Fargo,” with a win for Ewan McGregor. — Relaxnews
