Putting out fire effectively using extinguishing ball

- By Elton Gomes

KOTA KINABALU: If you are unsure how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a fire outbreak, there is now a novel and effective alternative - Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball.

Weighing about 1.3 kg, this product could be the first line of defence in preventing fire from spreading and destroying one's property.

Simply throw the ball into a fire and it will activate within three seconds to effectively disperse fire extinguishing chemicals.

The Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball will self-activate when it comes into contact with flames even when no one is present.

A demonstration of the effectiveness of the Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball was held yesterday at the Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) grounds in Kepayan by Euro Elide Asia Sdn Bhd, the distributor of the product.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din who was present at the event reckoned the new innovative product could help stop a fire before it spreads.

“As the police are directly and indirectly involved in investigating fire incidents and working side by side with the Fire and Rescue Department, we believe the use of this product (Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball) is a practical way of preventing fires from happening in the first place,” Ramli said yesterday.

He said further discussion would be made to consider having police MPVs carry the product in the vehicles as the first line of defence in putting out or preventing fires from happening.

Meanwhile, Euro Elide Asia Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk Zuraidi Rahim said the Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball can be placed in many fire-prone areas such as beside an electrical circuit breaker or in a kitchen.

“There is no special training or skill needed to operate the ball. Just throw the ball into a fire and it will activate itself within three seconds to effectively disperse fire extinguishing chemicals.

“If it is a huge fire, the ball will activate within one to two seconds,” he said, adding that the product does not need any inspection or maintenance while the lifespan of the ball is about five years.

Zuraidi, however, added that the Elide Fire Extinguishing Ball is not a replacement for a fire extinguisher.

“It is just an alternative for preventing and putting out a fire, because not many people are knowledgeable in using a fire extinguisher.

“And also because we should never take things for granted, especially when it comes to the safety of our property and love ones,” he said.
