Warisan leader claims discrepancies in electoral roll for Kapayan
KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah yesterday submitted objections to the Election Commission here over what it suspects are phantom voters in the Kapayan state constituency.
Kapayan Warisan chief Pritchard Gumbaris claimed he had discovered at least 12 new voters listed in one address that were of different ethnicities.
“There were similar discrepancies found in the 4th Quarter Supplementary Electoral Roll 2017 for Kapayan in four localities, namely Kg Kapayan, Taman Somerset, Taman Ridge and Taman Everclicked, which are scattered among three polling district centres,” he claimed.
“We suspect something is not right and fear that this might affect the outcome of a fair and clean election during GE14,” said Pritchard.
He and four others submitted the objections to the Election Commission in mini Putrajaya here yesterday.
Prior to this, in mid-2017, they made a similar protest and won 25 of the 29 objections submitted.
“There appears to be a very unusual movement of voters from Moyog and Tenom into Kapayan which had never happened before, not in large numbers,” Pritchard claimed.
The group also objected to the venue where the 4th Quarter Supplementary Electoral Roll 2017 for Kapayan was displayed.
The list was placed inside an office on the first floor of the Penampang District Council, which Pritchard said was not easily accessible.
“Why can’t they place it at the information counter for public viewing? I’m sure there is nothing to hide,” he said.
Pritchard is now urging all opposition parties to check for any irregularities and suspicious entries of new voters in their respective areas before the deadline on 31 January 2018.

Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah publicity secretary Ginger Phoong had on Tuesday claimed that he had uncovered something fishy in the latest supplementary electoral roll for Luyang constituency.
In the supplementary electoral roll for the fourth quarter of 2017, Phoong claimed he found that 12 new voters had been added to a house at Taman Mutiara whom the house owner confirmed were neither her friends nor relatives.
He said the 12 new voters at the house at Taman Mutiara were all Chinese with different surnames, born between 1938 and 1950, meaning that there were all 70 years old and above.
He said according to the house owner, she had submitted her MyKad to the MCA service counter in Foh Sang to move her voting address last month and her identification card was held at the counter for a day.
Phoong also highlighted several other cases, including the addition of eight new voters to a house at Taman Luyang Phase 2, five new voters to a house at Taman Luyang Perdana, six new voters to a house at Taman Fu Yun and five new voters to a house at Taman Golden City.
