Filipina claims trial over fake endorsement on passport
KOTA KINABALU: A Filipina claimed trial at the Sessions Court here yesterday to possessing a passport with fake endorsement.
Nasra Ibba, 27, who was brought before judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamed, denied the charge which was read to her yesterday in Tausug language.
She is accused of committing the offence at the departure hall of Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here at 6.32am on November 4, 2017.
The offence is framed under Section 56 (1)(l) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963, punishable under Section 56 (1)(aa) of the same Act which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 or a maximum jail term of five years or both upon conviction.
The court fixed February 7 this year for case management and ordered Nasra to be further detained in custody, pending disposal of the case.
Prosecuting officer from the Immigration Department, Mosyafiq Amin appeared for the prosecution while Nasra was not represented.
Meanwhile, the same court jailed 13 foreigners between three and four months for entering the state illegally.
The foreigners, eight men and five women, pleaded guilty before the judge, to each of their charge under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The indictment carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both and whippings of not more than six strokes, upon conviction.
In mitigation, the foreigners, aged between 19 and 52 told the court that they worked as labourers while some were jobless.
The court also ordered four of the men to be whipped once while others were spared due to their age and gender.
