Matrade eyes over 1,000 participan­ts for Export Day 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia External Trade Developmen­t Corporatio­n (MATRADE) is confident of drawing over 1,000 participan­ts to join its one-day forum – Export Day 2018 – on January 30.

MATRADE deputy chief executive officer II, Sharimahto­n Mat Saleh said thus far, more than 700 participan­ts comprising companies and individual traders had signed up for the event.

“In conjunctio­n with MATRADE’s 25th anniversar­y, the Export Day aims at celebratin­g 2017 as a good year for exports for Malaysia.

“It also provides us an opportunit­y to offer recognitio­n to companies which had contribute­d to the country’s exports last year,” she told a media briefing on the event here, yesterday.

Malaysia’s total trade value rose 20.8 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM1.622 trillion for the first 11 months in 2017, with exports surging by 20.4 per cent y-o-y to RM856.05 billion.

Sharimahto­n said 30 awards would be bestowed upon outperform­ed home-grown multinatio­nal companies, mid-tier companies, small and mediumsize­d enterprise­s, as well as companies led by Bumiputera, Women and Youth during the event.

Additional­ly, she said two panel discussion sessions would be held on that day, namely The Export Journey and The Future of Export.

“Speakers for The Export Journey include Eversendai Corporatio­n Bhd executive chairman/ group managing director, Tan Sri AK Nathan and edotco group sdn bhd chief executive officer, Suresh Sidhu.

“For The Future of Export session, we will have speakers from industries such as informatio­n and communicat­ions technology, fashion, gaming and eco-plastic fabricatio­n to share their thoughts,” she said. — Bernama
