KOTA KINABALU: The change of pace in the country's current community environment requires its people to be more sensitive and wise in handling today's challenges, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin said.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of Sabah National Civics Bureau's (BTN) Program Cinta Negara (Love Your Nation programme) yesterday, Yahya cited the impact of social media as one of the challenges that should be addressed accordingly.

“The influence of social media that has since become a trend in our lives has now become one of the factors that can threaten the strength of our unity.

“We must be wise in assessing the various information circulating online so that we may not be easily influenced. We must always try to get the most accurate information from the relevant authority,” Yahya said.

The Agriculture and Food Industry Minister asserted that the country's harmonious environment must be safeguarded and the people must stay away from racial and religious sentiments at all costs.

He contended that the young people should learn from the older generation, whereby the former had often adopted pure qualities in their daily lives.

Commenting on the programme, Yahya expressed his gratitude towards BTN Sabah for its effort in organizing such programmes, which he believes will bring a positive impact to the society.
