Kit Siang’s proposal over voter registration impractical — Nur Jazlan

-

JOHOR BAHRU: The proposal by DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang that the Election Commission (EC) should allow eligible voters to register until the last day before the 14th General Election (GE14) is not practical, said Pulai Member of Parliament Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

He said the proposal was also seen as a desperate measure for the opposition to win votes in the GE14 and would only lead to the lack of confidence among the people over the voting process.

“I am drawn to the proposal because if we think logically, it will create more last minute voters in which there will be more issues such as phantom and Bangladeshi voters that the opposition has been playing up.

“This (the proposal) proves that the opposition has no longer gained the trust of the people, to the extent of wanting to rely on last minute voters,” he told reporters after attending the Pulai parliamentary constituency polling day simulation at Taman Bukit Indah yesterday.

Nur Jazlan, who is also Deputy Home Minister, said people, especially the Chinese voters, did not want to be deceived by Kit Siang’s propaganda anymore.

He also said the selection of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan candidate for prime minister was deemed as a failure to attract Malay voters.

“Lim Kit Siang is banking on Dr Mahathir to bring the ‘Malay tsunami’ but it is unsuccessful as the people have lost confidence in the opposition.
